Easily type Bangla script
Bijoy Bayanno is a free system utility that enables you to directly type Bangla characters with your keyboard. Developed by Mustafa Jabbar and released back in 2009, this handy program is a typing software that provides Bangla and Bengali fonts that are compatible with Unicode. It’s similar to Avro Keyboard in nature — however, this one isn’t an open-source program and can’t be flexible for most developers.
Top Recommended Alternative
Bijoy Bayanno solves the age-old problem of disjointed Bangla characters on many of the mainstream keyboards, such as Microsoft SwiftKey, Gboard, and more. With this app, you can ensure that the entirety of the language is here and is supported during usual typing, sending messages, and just plain writing.
For everyone’s use
Bengali, also known as Bangla, is the official and most widely-spoken language of Bangladesh. The Bengali writing system or script is a cursive type of script, and thus, isn’t found by default on most computer systems — even if you open up the Character Map app. Fortunately, there is Bangla typing software available in various forms. One of these is Bijoy Bayanno or Bijoy 52, which is easy to use and allows you to quickly switch between Bangla and English.
This utility program has the basic features that most typing tools have. You can use it offline, and you can also change the compatibility to Non-Unicode or ANSI. Additionally, there are PDF typing sheets for this, which you can follow to enter words or phrases without spelling everything. However, these don’t come with the program and are only offered online.
Installing this tool is pretty easy. After unzipping the file, you have to launch the EXE file, which will start the installation. Take note that you’ll need to have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 installed — otherwise, you’ll be prompted to get it first. Afterward, you can choose your operating system during the installation process, run the program once it’s finished, and input the activation key found on the included text document.
Ongoing legacy and Windows compatibility
Despite being released in 2009, Bijoy Bayanno continues to be widely used across modern Windows systems, including Windows 10 and Windows 11 environments. Its long-standing presence in Bangla digital publishing and government documentation has helped maintain relevance, particularly among users already familiar with the traditional Bijoy keyboard layout.
Standardization in professional sectors
Bijoy layout remains a recognized standard in many offices, media houses, and educational institutions in Bangladesh. Because of this institutional adoption, users trained on the Bijoy format often prefer Bayanno over phonetic alternatives. This consistency makes it especially practical for professional typesetting, official documents, and print workflows requiring ANSI compatibility.
Layout familiarity vs phonetic input
Unlike phonetic keyboards such as Avro Keyboard, Bijoy Bayanno follows a fixed key-mapped layout that prioritizes speed through memorization rather than transliteration. Experienced typists often achieve faster output once accustomed to the configuration. This structured approach supports high-volume data entry tasks where uniform formatting and predictable keystrokes are essential.
Continued demand for offline tools
In environments with limited or restricted internet access, Bijoy Bayanno’s fully offline functionality remains a practical advantage. Without requiring cloud syncing or online verification after setup, it supports uninterrupted typing sessions. This makes it particularly useful in secure workplaces, examination centers, and regional offices where stable connectivity may not always be guaranteed.
Not a lot of advanced functions
All in all, Bijoy Bayanno is a handy utility for anyone needing to type Bangla characters. This software can feel lacking, however, as it doesn’t have some of the more advanced features that other similar programs do. Plus, it’s not easily configurable with coding, which makes other programs a better choice for those looking for more versatility. If you want a simple tool, though, this is a great starting point.
